While transferring files from a memory card to my new mobile phone, I discovered photos I had taken with my old one. They are all random snapshots, not the best works of photography, but I found most of them interesting. I have picked ten of them for this entry.

You will notice that most of the photos are of places in Hong Kong or animals. It’s probably true (to some degree) that your photos tell a lot about you.

In the last couple weeks, I had spent a lot of time imagining what people who experienced earthquake must have gone through, and how terrifying it would be to have the house you live in collapsed on you.

To my absolute horror, an apartment building in Hong Kong collapsed yesterday afternoon. Four people were killed and two were injured. Several eye witnesses were evidently still shocked, and they told the news that it all happened within 10 seconds. It’s saddening to think that people were killed at home, which is supposed to be the safest place of all.

This kind of thing is extremely rare and Hong Kong is generally a very safe city. However, on a more personal level, it adds on to the randomness of everything. The building is in a town I visit almost every Sunday for private tuition. I dread to think what it will be like when my bus goes past there next time.

Picture from this Mingpao online article.

As mentioned on BBC:
People in Asia have seen the longest total solar eclipse this century, with large areas of India and China plunged into darkness.

Here in Hong Kong, today we had a partial eclipse instead of a total eclipse. Since this ‘eclipse of the century’ made the headlines, many people in Asia ,including myself, was very excited. I was intrigued because I had never seen a solar eclipse before.1 That said, I hadn’t expected to see it myself due to the lack of professional tools. We had been told not to view it with the naked eye as it could cause permanent damage to our eye sight.

As it turned out, I ended up seeing it with my naked eye from my office! A co-worker made a tool to filter the lights so we were able to take turns to view the new-moon-like sun.2

In some traditional cultures, solar eclipse is seen as a bad sign.3 But from what I saw today, i.e. everyone looking up in anticipation, being amazed and amused by the sudden lack of sunlight, it was also a fun occasion that even nerds like me enjoyed.

It wasn’t a random adventure. It was more like a walk that I really need – only that I was too lazy to get out of my town. And now it appears that I am too lazy to narrate.

Sometimes I forget that my town is by the coast, because it is quite far away from my house.

Rich people.

More of rich people’s toys.

A hotel that I have been to a few times is in sight. Oh, the memories.

Back to the poorer area.

Some of them join and some separate.

One more photo, titled “people annoy me”:

I had taken this way before today. And it was certainly not the only time I saw it happen. Seriously, what is wrong with those people? Her leg is so short that she could barely make it anyway, so… Why? People are supposed to sit. :/

Before everyone thinks I’ve abandoned this blog (not true!), I present a photo-heavy entry.

After two years and two months, I found myself in Disneyland again. There isn’t much to say about the experience except that, 1. the Halloween parade was pretty awesome, 2. Stitch Encounter is my new favourite Disneyland show, he was so crude that it was brilliant. Photo time!

Left: Minnie and some basketball player waving at us. Right: ;D

Left: Alice speaking in Cantonese. Right: Cinderella poking her tongue out (click to enlarge). Go me for capturing this moment!

Woohoo!
