The name is Melody, some friends call me Mel, (S)Melly or Melon. I was born in summer in 1985, in the city of Hong Kong. My father is from Hong Kong and my mother is from Malaysia. While I speak Cantonese, I can write in both Chinese and English. I also know a little bit of Japanese, and very limited Scottish Gaelic. I prefer English because the books I enjoy the most are in English. That led me to the decision of being an English major at university. I was lucky enough to have lived and studied in the wonderful city of Glasgow, Scotland, which is my favourite place on earth.
I work full-time job as a translator. I translate subtitles most of the time, but occasionally in other media. I am taken and have been going out with the incredibly (un)lucky man for about a year now. We live quite far apart, which makes me miss him quite often.
Almost everyone I meet finds me short. Also, my face looks a few years younger than I really am. I am average in other physical qualities, I don’t complain (much) though.
When it comes to personalities, I am a complicated case. In front of strangers, I am shy and quiet. In front of people I know, I can be extremely talkative. I usually try to be nice and humble but sometimes fail because deep down I have the false assumption that I’m more intelligent than average. Other adjectives I often use to describe myself include stubborn, opinionated, slightly sarcastic, impatient, introverted… and more.
Writing is one of my favourite things to do. It is what I have always been passionate about. Apart from letters and blogs, I write creatively. I have been writing short stories and a number of fragments since about age 16 and have recently started attempting poetry and a little bit of stage writing. I love reading as well – realistic stories and modernist works are most likely to spark my interests. Although writing is probably my biggest interest, I love music and sports like everyone else. I do listen to some punk rock and watch a lot of football (soccer if you are American), for example.
I’d say more about myself, but I think short pages of useless information would be slightly more appealing for visitors.
